Slipped Disk

The Problem

Masha, a young sports enthusiast dabbling in powerlifting was referred to AIS Clinic by a family member
when she strained her back while lifting weights one day. Visibly in a lot of pain, she explained that she
had been powerlifting for over six months and had a perfectly healthy lifestyle, and one particular session
she felt a sharp pain in the lumbar region. Since then, she had been finding it extremely painful to even sit
or move. Only lying down on her back gave her some relief.

Our Strategy

#Correct Diagnosis

On examining, the doctor found out that the rubbery cushions or discs between two vertebrae in Masha’s
lower spine or vertebral column had protruded. In simple words, she had a slipped disc injury caused by
lifting heavy weights. The severe, stabbing pain in her lower back prevented Masha from even making
small movements. She was recommended an MRI to pinpoint the location of the slipped disc and reveal
the damage.

#Detailed Evaluation

A detailed evaluation of the MRI scan revealed the position of the protruded vertebra, and also helped
the doctors check the degeneration of the disc due to loss of fluid content in them. Fortunately, there
wasn’t any regular degeneration of discs in Masha’s case. She was prescribed the homeopathy medicine,
________, and was suggested complete bed rest, at least for a few days.

#Self Help

To regain the natural spinal strength and flexibility, Masha was strictly advised to avoid bending, lifting
and prolonged sitting during the recuperation period. She was also asked to sleep on a hard mattress and
some very light flexibility-building exercises. As her condition improved, she was suggested light,
exercises like walking and swimming.

The Result

Masha showed great progress only in a few days of the treatment. The medicine controlled the pain and
aided the regenerative process in the body. A true sportsperson, Masha gradually strengthened her core
and back, and resumed powerlifting after six months after her injury. She has since won several awards in
powerlifting.
