Male Pattern Baldness (MPB)
Hair loss is typically associated with males and is also called as androgenetic alopecia (AGA). There is often a strong history of baldness in the family. Baldness develops gradually over 17-40 years. Baldness in males affects the frontal hairline which begins to recede gradually. Thinning of the hair is also noticed at the crown (vertex).
The hair at the sides of the head and the back remains unaffected. Most common reason for hair fall is imbalance of a hormone called DHT- Dihydrotestosterone. The hormone causes shrinking and hardening of the hair follicle which prevents blood circulation and supply of nutrients to the hair which eventually leads to hair loss and hair thinning.
Diagnosis of hair loss
Male pattern baldness can be easily identified on the basis of its typical pattern. Video microscope is a painless non-invasive technique which magnifies the hair follicles and scalp. The extent of damage to the hair follicles and thinning of the hair can be diagnosed using video microscope. It also measures the hair thickness in different areas.
Homeopathic treatment for hair loss
The core goal of the treatment is to boost the anagen (growth phase) of the hair and slow down the pace of baldness. The oral medicines used act as natural DHT inhibitors which protect the hair follicles from shrinking, improves nutritive flow to the hair roots, and helps in preventing and controlling hair loss. Treatment facilitates hair growth in early stages of baldness.
The outlook of the treatment rests mainly on the age and general health condition of the patient. Patients who are below forty years and who do not smoke respond very well to the treatment. Improvement is noticed in about 3-6 months’ time however it is recommended to take regular medicines until optimum outcome is attained.
